Aaargh! After the rant of yesterday about 'you get what you pay for', I was at Denny's Pet World today looking at the fish tanks. I was looking at the clown loach tank and there was a big one in there, I squatted and was looking at it when I spotted *white* spots on its body. Alarmed, I looked at the other ones, yep, they all had white spots on them in varying amounts. Quickly looking at the other fish, I found that the the various other smaller silver colored fish were heavily covered in the white spots. Oh well, now I don't know who to trust anymore. Did the ich come from Petco or did it come from Denny's Pet World. Does it even matter? The rule is to have a quarantine tank where you should quarantine all fish for 2-3 weeks before introducing them in the main tank.
So I quickly went to the guy who keeps track of the fish and told him, "One of your tank has Ick!" He quickly followed me and I showed him what I had found. He looked carefully and said, "you are right." "You should not sell anything from this tank", I croaked. He patted my back, "Yep, let me put the sign on." He brought a sign which said, "Sorry, we are not for sale until we are in tip top shape" and stuck it to the tank. Then he brought a huge canister, poured a cap full of a blue dye (most likely Malachite Green based medicine) and poured it in.
So, I guess I need to amend my statement. "You get what you pay for; but if you pay more, you don't necessarily get a better product!" Constant vigilance is the only way.
