Today was Taekwondo test. By itself the test went alright. Nothing special. You engage yourself in something you haven't ever done before and you find that you have made many more ties than you previously had. Such ties are stronger and more enjoyful than the ones formed from your professional life.
Anyway, after the exam, as usual, Dr. Speyer took us for Pizza at Felini's. Dave and Craig held a party at Craig's place. Compared to the last time, this time a lot more people showed up. Part of the reason I think, is that this time the white belt class is a lot more cohesive. Many from the beginner class came to the party.
I am not exactly a party person. I am not that good at making small talk either. Parties, for me are intriguing places. But then so are people who seem to enjoy parties. I think I read it in the book, "Wuthering Heights", this rich and famous character tells his wife how he hates parties. The wife is from a relatively poor family and is curious about how he feels about parties and socializing. The reason the person hates hosting parties is because as the host he has to make sure that all the guests are attended to, nobody feels like they are being left out. He has to converse with everyone and show sincerity and behave as if what that person is saying is very interesting...The list goes on. Anyway, there are some people who seem to be enjoying everything a lot. I am somewhat curious. Do they really enjoy it all that much, or are they just acting?
Another thing which intrigues me is the use of superlatives by many people, especially americans. "Dude, we had a blast. We had so much fun...", do they? I don't know. In my life there haven't been many instances where I was totally enthralled. I have been to places, parties whatever. The amount of interaction that I had with people, the activities I did, were approximately same as others. But others say "I had a blast..". Well, yeah it was alright. It was cool, but blast is an extreme word, a superlative. I did not enjoy it that much. I reserver the use of a superlative for extreme circumstances and the effect of an extreme circumstance thrills you really hard and is momentary. According to me, it is not possible to be at that extreme height for a long time. Whatever ...
